Network Updation & Field Validation for Power Distribution Modernization

About the Customer

A large power distribution utility in India required continuous GIS updates to support ongoing network expansion and upgrades executed by multiple departments and government schemes under national power sector reform initiatives.

Situation

Frequent incremental network changes across departments and infrastructure schemes, delayed field verification, and inconsistent asset identification created gaps between field execution and enterprise GIS records. This impacted planning, compliance, reporting, and loss reduction initiatives.

Task

Ensure the enterprise GIS database accurately reflects field-level network conditions by:

• Mapping of new network & assets
• Updation of existing network assets for any changes
• Mapping of new/untagged consumers in GIS
• Creation of Map & SLD in .pdf/.dwg format
• Marking of New/Unmarked assets
• Physical inspection of assets across 33 KV, 11 KV, LV networks and consumer endpoints
• Survey and digitization of elephant corridor in landbase

Action

• Conducted field surveys for network expansion, asset validation, and consumer mapping
• Performed physical verification of network assets across voltage levels
• Captured asset and consumer data using digital data collection workflows
• Executed asset painting for identification and traceability
• Surveyed and digitized elephant corridor landbase features
• Updated verified network, asset, and consumer data into enterprise GIS
• Generated updated network maps and SLDs for operational use
• Performed multi-level QA/QC before GIS integration
