Long-Haul Fiber Route Design

About the Customer

A US-based Telecom client requires long-haul fiber route design and redundant backhaul connectivity between the MSC and multiple hub locations.

Situation

The project required optimized fiber routes that maintained redundancy and connectivity within approved work-order boundaries. Route feasibility depended on existing infrastructure, ROW availability, road crossings, and aerial/underground structure validation.

Task
  • Design long-haul fiber routes, including route planning, cable placement, and redundant backhaul connectivity from the MSC to multiple hubs.
  • Develop resilient fiber ring designs that meet approved technical standards, network connectivity requirements, and project boundary constraints.
  • Use approved fielding routes and existing infrastructure wherever feasible, validating aerial/underground feasibility and structures.

Action / Approach
  • Review fielding data to validate work-order boundaries, existing infrastructure, pole/structure availability and splice locations.
  • Optimize routes to minimize fiber length and road crossings while considering infrastructure and ROW availability.
  • Use GIS basemaps, Google Street View, parcel/road layers and existing network data for route validation and design.

Result
  • Deliver the final fiber design package and PDF in accordance with customer standards and technical requirements.
  • Maintain redundancy and connectivity while optimizing routes and minimizing unnecessary new construction.
  • Improve route feasibility and constructability through structure, ROW and crossing validation.
